A qualifying referral adds storage to both the referrer and the invited account. The default reward is 500 MB each, for 90 days.
Referral reward cap
Each account can receive a limited number of referral rewards: three by default. At the default 500 MB per reward, that is 1.5 GB. Rewards that have ended still count toward the lifetime limit. Further referrals can still qualify but do not add more storage. Existing rewards keep the amount and expiry promised when they were issued.
What the extra storage is
Referral storage is added on top of your current storage limit: the Free plan's, or the welcome offer's while it runs. On the Free plan, including during a welcome offer, it also raises your maximum torrent size by the same amount; paid plans keep their own torrent-size limit. It does not change monthly delivery or concurrency limits.
Note: Reward amounts can change. The referral panel shows the current reward before you share your link.
When a referral qualifies
A referral qualifies when the invited person verifies their email.
Signing up alone is not enough. The invited person must verify their email address. Signing up with Google counts as verified.
Why verification is required
Verification shows the referral is a real person with a real mailbox, not an account made up to collect storage.
If a referral has not qualified
- If a referral appears under Invited but not Qualified, the invited person has not verified their email yet.
- The invite may be held for review — see Why an invite is held for review.
Tip: For a pending referral, ask the invited person to check their inbox and spam folder for the verification email.
