Turning on two-factor sign-in

Two-factor

Turning on two-factor sign-in; “That code is not valid”.

Two-factor authentication adds a six-digit authenticator code to password sign-in. gettor uses standard TOTP, so any compatible authenticator app works.

  1. Open the security section of your account page and start the two-factor setup.
  2. Scan the code with your authenticator app.
  3. Enter the six-digit code it shows to confirm the pairing.
  4. Save the eight recovery codes you are given. This is the only time they are shown.

The recovery codes matter more than people expect

Recovery codes let you sign in if you lose access to your authenticator. Store them somewhere separate from that device, such as a password manager or a printed copy. Account shows how many remain.

Careful: Each recovery code works once. If you run out and no longer have your authenticator, the account cannot be recovered.

“That code is not valid”

Almost always clock drift on the device generating the code.

The message names the usual cause directly:

That code is not valid — check the time on your device and try again.

Authenticator codes depend on accurate device time. If the clock is wrong, valid-looking codes may be rejected.

Fixing it

  1. Turn on automatic date and time on the device with the authenticator.
  2. Some authenticator apps also offer time correction. Use it if your device clock is already accurate.
  3. If a code is about to expire, wait for the next one and enter the new code.

Tip: If authenticator codes still fail, sign in with a recovery code, then turn two-factor off and set it up again.
