Can I close the browser while a transfer runs?
Managing transfersCan I close the browser while a transfer runs?; Why a transfer sits in “Queued”.
Close the tab, close the laptop, lose your connection — the transfer carries on. The torrent traffic is between gettor’s servers and the swarm; your browser is only ever watching.
What the dashboard is actually doing
While the page is open, progress updates live. Closing it stops the display updates, not the transfer.
If the list says “Reconnecting…”
That is the live connection dropping and re-establishing — usually a network blip, a sleeping laptop, or a tab that has been in the background for a long time. Transfers are unaffected. The numbers catch up when it reconnects.
Tip: You can be emailed when a transfer finishes instead of watching for it. Turn on “Email me when a transfer finishes” on your account page.
What does need you
Downloading finished files to your device uses your connection. That part stops if you close the browser, though it can be resumed.
Why a transfer sits in “Queued”
Your plan allows a fixed number of transfers at once; the rest wait their turn automatically.
Each plan allows a set number of transfers to run at the same time. Add more than that and the extras wait — they are accepted, they keep their order, and each starts as a slot frees up.
| Plan | Transfers at once |
|---|---|
| Free | 1 |
| Lite | 2 |
| Plus | 3 |
| Pro | 5 |
Queued is not the same as Waiting for capacity
Queued is about your plan. Waiting for capacity is about gettor being busy. Both resolve on their own; only the first is affected by upgrading.
Note: A waiting transfer costs you nothing while it waits. Allowances are counted as bytes actually move, not when a transfer is added.
