Which link gets the credit
Attribution and reviewWhich link gets the credit; Why an invite is held for review.
Attribution is first-touch. The first referral link a person opens is the one credited, and it stays credited for 90 days — opening someone else’s link afterwards does not overwrite it.
The rules in full
- First link wins, held for 90 days.
- A person can be referred once, ever. An existing account cannot be retroactively attributed.
- Self-referral is blocked — you cannot invite yourself with a second address.
- Sign-ups from the same network as the referrer are held for review rather than paid immediately.
Note: If someone signed up without using your link, there is no way to attach the referral afterwards. The attribution has to exist at sign-up.
Why an invite is held for review
Sign-ups from the same network as the referrer are checked by a person before they pay out.
When a new account is created from the same network address as the account that referred it, the reward is held rather than granted automatically.
Why
The cheapest way to abuse a referral programme is to invite yourself repeatedly from one machine. Holding same-network sign-ups is what stops that being free money, and it is why the programme can exist at all.
Legitimate cases
Household members, flatmates and colleagues genuinely share a network, and those are real referrals. They are reviewed by a person rather than rejected — if that is your situation, the hold resolves.
Note: gettor keeps the sign-up address both as the address and as a one-way hash of it. The hash is what allows a hundred accounts from one place to be noticed without keeping a hundred readable addresses, and it cannot be turned back into one.
